American Tree Sparrow

(Spizella arborea)

Found in open willow, scrub, scrub conifers, and bogs. During migration and winter it may also be found in weedy and brushy fields, hedgerows or fence rows, or dense grassy fields. Nests on or in shrubs near the ground, up to 5 feet. The nest is a cup-shaped structure built from grasses, small roots, plant stems, bark, and mosses; often lined with feathers, animal hair or fur.
